Life at Places for London

Get an inside look into what it's like to work at Places for London from some of our team.

Grace O'Connor

Commercial Real Estate Apprentice

My journey began in sixth form, where I seized the opportunity to join a work experience programme organised by Places for London. This experience led me to apply for and secure an apprenticeship, starting in Property Management and later transitioning to Strategy and Planning within the Innovation team. In my current role, I manage innovation pilots, tackle sustainability challenges, and oversee projects like 'Meanwhile spaces' to benefit the community. Being part of a company dedicated to improving London resonates deeply with me as a lifelong Londoner.

I appreciate the scheme's diverse opportunities for growth, education, and networking, as well as the supportive team atmosphere. Having the opportunity to gain industry experience whilst studying one day a week is the perfect blend for me and working alongside knowledgeable, friendly colleagues has enriched my experience, providing an environment where I can thrive.

I’m excited to advance in my career, qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor status upon completion of my apprenticeship, and continuing to drive positive change for London.

Emma Hatch

Head of ESG & Sustainability

I joined the business in 2016 as a Development Manager and instantly became captivated by the scope of our London portfolio with opportunities to work on developments from the beginning right through to completion.

At Places, initiative is not just encouraged but celebrated, offering ample room for personal and professional development. In my role, I prioritise sustainability, championing economic, social, and environmental responsibility across our organisation. Currently, I'm focused on crafting our inaugural sustainability and inclusivity strategy, refining ESG practices, and leading our journey towards carbon neutrality.

What excites me about Places for London is the culture of support and empowerment, where new ideas can flourish, and partnerships enrich our impact. Looking ahead, I'm driven by our collective vision to deliver transformative outcomes for London, achieving milestones that reflect our commitment to a brighter, more sustainable future. I’m excited to stand back in five years time and see all the tangible outputs we’ve delivered as a team.
